We are very pleased to announce the second CCTA 2018 Student Best Paper Award. The award is funded by the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) and has been established to recognize excellence in a CCTA paper whose primary contributor is a Student Member of the IEEE. Selection for the award is based on originality, clarity, and potential impact on practical applications of control, and all student nominees are expected to present his/her paper at the CCTA 2018. Details of the award and application process are as follows.
Eligibility
The primary and first listed author must be a student at the time of original submission, and must have a current IEEE membership for the year 2018. The nominated paper must have been accepted for presentation at the CCTA 2018. Nominations must be made provisionally at the time of paper submission, following the procedure outlined below.
Procedure
Nominations must be made by the student's major professor (advisor) through PaperPlaza by deadline for paper submission; this deadline represents a provisional nomination pending final acceptance of the paper. Please fill out the nomination form and submit by following links in PaperPlaza: "Start" => "Submit a paper or session proposal links"; then submit the form by clicking the "Submit" link next to "Paper Award Nomination".
Nomination Information
The downloadable nomination form must be completed in full with the following information:- Certification that the nominee is the main author of the paper, was a student at the time of the nomination, and has a current IEEE membership for the year 2018. The student's IEEE membership number must be included.
- A paragraph with a brief description of the contribution of the paper and justification for nomination.
- The advisor's telephone number and e-mail address.
- Paper title and submission number assigned by PaperPlaza.
Please note that for compliance reasons, the nomination form must be converted to a PDF prior to uploading (submitters may use PaperPlaza's built-in converter to create the PDF from the downloadable MS Word file). Also, note that nominations are limited to one per advisor.
Prize
The award recipient receives round trip (economy class) air fare and up to four conference-rate hotel-nights at the CCTA 2018. All finalists receive free student conference registrations for CCTA 2018.
Presentation of Award
The winner will be announced by the CSS President at CCTA 2018 where each finalist will receive a certificate and the winner receives a plaque. For more information, click here or contact the CSS Chair of the CCTA Best Student-Paper Award committee.
Finalists
Evaluation of the nominated papers was carried out by a special CSS committee independent of the CCTA Program and Operating Committees. We are happy to announce the two finalists, from which the winner will be selected after the finalists have presented their papers:
Xin Chen, for the paper entitled: "Distributed Automatic Load-Frequency Control with Optimality in Power Systems" (advisor: Professor Na Li).
Zahra Amini, for the paper entitled: "Optimizing Offsets in Signalized Traffic Networks: A Case Study" (advisor: Professor Alexander Skabardonis).
